Job Purpose::
To provide thought leadership on macroeconomic and economic topics in the Bank's Global Practice areas and to set strategic priorities across the Country Programs Complex with the aim of ensuring that operational activities contribute effectively and efficiently to the Bank's Mission and Vision and strategy, while reflecting client needs. The general directorate will act as a bank-wide bastion for cutting edge research and knowledge creation and priority sector strategies that will ultimately guide the sovereign and non-sovereign financing and non-financing operations of the bank.
Roles and Responsibilities:
General Responsibilities:
* Provides high level guidance on global macroeconomic trends and oversee the conduct of forward-looking analytical research and sectoral studies to underpin policy
* Monitors emerging global practices that will impact member countries and provides advisory services to all the segments of the bank in their financing and non-financing operations
* Ensures high quality of entry and implementation by providing required guidance to the Global Practice teams in (a) social and economic infrastructure and (b) resilience and social development
* ultimately responsible for the operational policies and standards and ensures smooth collaboration with the 'Country Relations' general directorate to ensure high quality of entry and implementation of projects
* Oversees cooperation across global practice areas and consults stakeholders in order to understand and obtain feedback on improving the Bank's operational priorities
* Oversees economic research agenda as well as policy research to deepen understanding of key challenges relating to development as well as mandates macroeconomic and financial sector monitoring
* Supervises the Research and Knowledge Management and oversees the development of flagship publications and knowledge documents including the Annual Report
* Oversees the development and use of state of the art technology to systematically capture, disseminate and replicate knowledge/learning
* Oversees the development of statistical capacity and data systems to support the Bank's research programs, track development indicators and monitor the Bank's operational activities
* Acts as key representative for the bank in external forums regarding topics related to Global Practices and actively promotes the bank's Islamic based approach to economic development and cooperation
* Approves official missions for Global Practice Directors, Managers and staff, proposes and coordinates the organization of significant IDB flagship events
* Supports the establishment of partnerships to foster the developers' network in global practice areas and recommends the development and implementation of joint initiatives
Leadership Responsibilities:
Change management
* Supports the implementation of decentralized actions within the regional hubs with particular focus on integrating the economists of the regional hub with the economic research
* Pushes the development of new systems, tools, processes, policies and procedures as required
People Management and Coaching
* Supervises the general directorate, aligns with the General Director for Country Relations and Services and sets overarching direction
* Leads by example and ensuring that the IDB's cultural values are alive and well propagated through middle management; and certainly trickled down to the staff in Global Practices and Chief Economist General Directorate
* Develops partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to provide cross-functional support and act as spokesperson on all matters relating to economic issues and development trends
* Supports Directors in filling key capability gaps of teams through recruiting efforts
