1. Basic Function:
Plans, coordinates and supervises all workshop activities, including machining, valve repair, skilled carpentry, iron, sheet metal and piping fabrications and tool repair. Assess, schedule and inspect all fabrications and repair work carried out by subordinates.
2. Work Performed:
a) Directs and supervises the activities of assigned personnel in the workshop. Performs supervisory functions and exercises financial authority at the level established by management for the position.
b) Receives all work requests regarding fabrication of piping, metal parts, structural steel and wooden furniture or rough wooden items. Obtains and studies related drawings, sketches and specifications, discusses with initiators and recommends alternatives or optimum methods of fabrication.
c) Receives requests for maintenance of a wide variety of valves (globe, check, relief, butterfly valves) tools, furniture and metal items and prioritizes work based on project needs and workshop schedules.
d) Allocates fabrication and maintenance jobs to respective shop foreman/craftsman, along with necessary drawings and provides technical advice and/ or prepares sketches as required. Regularly inspects work at the various stages of fabrication or repair and ensures that all completed work conforms to drawings and specifications.
e) Regularly reviews stores stocks to ensure that adequate spares and materials are available. Recommends new or alternative items and the adjustment of stock levels as necessary. Also reviews various publications and recommends the procurement of new tools and equipment.
f) Performs other similar or related duties as assigned, such as enforcing fire and safety rules, ensuring proper maintenance of tools and machine tools, enforcing good housekeeping practices in the workshop, preparing status and activity reports, maintaining adequate records of work performed, etc.
