• Prepare the purchasing plan and implement the purchasing policies and procedures.
• Monitor the budget for purchasing activities and ensures that purchases are carried out within budget.
• Co-ordinate with Businesses Managers and Department Managers to obtain/understand detailed specifications of the items to be purchased.
• Examine the supplier list and issues inquiries for quotations from suppliers, if required.
• Negotiate and concludes the purchase orders within prescribed authority limits. Ensure correctness of all details in the purchase orders.
• Scan for and evaluate raw material supply sources on quality as well as on cost.
• Review and renew the contracts on due dates.
• Follow up with the suppliers to ensure adherence to quality, quantity and delivery schedules. .
• Ensure inspection of the material received to match quality/quantity requirements.
• Sort out any problems and deals with any emergency situations that may arise in day-to-day functioning of the purchase function.
• Develop and maintain database on suppliers, items supplied, prices, delivery track record, price increases track record etc.
• Ensure that all business units/departments adhere to purchase formats & procedures while asking for the services of the department.
