Job Purpose
The main purpose of the Planning Unit Head’s job is to oversee planning activities in the assigned project(s) including: preparing construction works programs, project's schedule analysis, communicating schedules, following up on work progress, and ensuring that all activities are completed on time
Principal Accountabilities
Responsible for supervising the planning teams allocated to a number of projects (e.g. in a given region) or to a large project
Provides support for the professional development of Planning staff reporting to him
Supports the Planning Manager with all operational and managerial decisions related to the planning function
Accountable for the provision of timely and accurate support to the Tendering Department concerning the preparation of construction schedules, manpower histograms, and other components of the technical package for bidding purposes
Accountable for the provision of timely and accurate support to Project Managers for the scheduling of newly-awarded projects
Accountable for the follow-up on the construction schedules for one or more projects, highlighting deviations and supporting Project Managers in the rescheduling of activities in order to meet contractual milestones
Updates the construction schedule and all associated work schedules (procurement schedule, shop drawing schedule, etc.) on timely basis
Provides active support to Project Managers for the substantiation of change orders from a scheduling perspective (scheduling of the changed portions of work, estimation of the impact of changes on the construction schedule, etc.)
Visits project sites regularly, and demonstrates active support to the Site Management team for addressing any issues impacting project execution
Coordinates closely with Cost Control and QS staff (on project sites and at Head Office) throughout all phases of the project execution
Reviews and validates data entry in the planning software
Oversees the work of Planning Engineers and data entry clerks assigned to the project
Contributes to the enhancing of planning tools, systems, and data at ESEC
Trains and develops Planning Engineers and data entry clerks in the Planning function
Communications and Working Relationships
Reports to and supports the BU Planning Manager / Project Manager on all planning matters
Coordinates with Operations on scheduling projects and change orders
Coordinates with Cost Control and QS throughout project execution
Interacts with and manages direct reports and operational issues on a daily basis
