Job Purpose:

The Mechanical engineer is responsible for all maintenance plan related aspects at the plant site including safety, environment, operations, performance, quality, human resources, plant image and community relations. Also, to ensure that the equipment is well maintained at optimum cost, and quality of the execution of maintenance jobs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

2. Provide guidance to technician and trades helpers in the repair, maintenance and installation of plant equipment including daily process problem solving and measurement activities that enable continuous plant operations.
   
3. Ensure the operational viability of the plant by evaluating and maintaining the proper functioning of all plant equipment.
   
4. Manage costs and maintain records of the costs to contribute to the cost-efficient operation of the plant.
   
5. Review design of equipments installations and be responsible for maintenance to provide for continuous availability for operations.
   
6. Establish and maintain communication with suppliers, contractors, and engineering firms outside of the company as well as with other technical plant personnel to ensure the necessary components are in place to complete maintenance projects in a timely, cost-effective, and efficient manner. 
   
7. Provides direct supervision team assigned to maintenance projects to ensure the completion of the work according to the contract specifications and costs.
   
8. Participate in the daily coordination meeting to review corrective work orders, inspection reports and incidents and assist in the planning of maintenance work.
   
9. Performs other duties related to preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance as may be assigned.
   
10. Record some possible anomalies observed on the equipment during maintenance or inspection.
    
11. Monitor the time requirements for each job and the optimal manpower and skills necessary for executing jobs.
    
12. Supervise the trial of equipment after maintenance.
    
13. Ensure that proper safety measures are being adhered to at all times by all personnel.
    
14. Responsible for scheduled inspection of tools and tackles (including safety tools and tackles) and ensuring that these are in optimal condition of safe use.
    
15. Performs, cooperates and coordinates with other duties as required or directed by Chief Engineer or Head of department.
    
16. Responsible for recording of daily job activities.
    
17. Manage people working under him.
    
18. Monitor job duration, cost and performance of crew.
    
19. Recommend improvements for cost reductions.
    
20. Respond to emergency repair needs.
    
21. Work with the planning in the development of job planning.
    
22. Ensure productive use of the crew.
    
23. Specify work procedures if required.
    
24. Monitor and controls overtime.
    
25. Ensure safe storage and disposal of replaced spares.
